ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, the Supreme Court denied appeals contesting the 26th proposed amendment to the Constitution, following the petitioners’ request for withdrawal.
Among other measures, the government’s much-discussed constitutional package intends to create a federal constitutional court and give the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) a three-year term.
The Supreme Court heard the combined plea before a three-judge panel that included Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa.
Along with other council members, Abid S. Zubairi, a former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association and current member of the Pakistan Bar Council, filed a petition opposing the proposed constitutional amendments.
