ISLAMABAD: The government can now proceed with the desired privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) after the Supreme Court of Pakistan revoked its stay order.
The case pertaining to the national airline’s privatization was heard on Thursday by the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court, which is led by Justice Aminuddin Khan.
The court was told by the additional attorney general (AAG) that the airline’s management was able to hire new professionals thanks to earlier court orders that paved the way for the privatization process. However, the privatization proposal had caused a halt in recruitment.
Additionally, the AAG said that limitations on the airline’s flying operations have been removed, enabling it to function freely.
Resuming the privatization process now would result in increased charges for the airline, said Justice Aminuddin.
