Following tracking information that connected a Chinese ship to the events, Sweden has formally asked China to assist with an investigation into possible sabotage related to the abrupt breakdown of two underwater internet cables in the Baltic Sea earlier this month.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson told reporters Thursday that Sweden had formally asked China to work with Swedish authorities to shed light on the situation.
In order to support its inquiry, Sweden has requested that the Chinese ship return to Swedish seas, according to Kristersson. At the moment, the ship is anchored in international waters in the strait of Kattegat, which separates Sweden and Denmark.
