Doctors in Switzerland are prescribing walks in public parks, art galleries, and museums to patients with chronic illnesses and mental health issues.
In an effort to support suffering people and encourage physical exercise, the western Swiss city of Neuchatel started a pilot project with doctors last month.
Patricia Lehmann, a Neuchatel physician participating in the initiative, told Reuters, “For people who sometimes have difficulties with their mental health, it allows them for a moment to forget their worries, their pain, their illnesses to go and spend a joyful moment of discovery.”
“I’m convinced that when we take care of people’s emotions, we allow them somehow to perhaps find a path to healing.”
