The company’s charitable division, Tata Trusts, owns a bulk 66% share in Tata Sons, one of the biggest corporate groups in India with yearly sales over $100 billion (£76.5 billion).
The 76-year-old son of Naval Tata—the father of Ratan—and Simone Tata is Noel Tata.
He will take over as the company’s charity chairman after serving on the boards of other Tata businesses, including Tata Trusts.
He is vice-chairman of Tata Steel and Titan Company Limited and chairman of Tata International Limited, Voltas, and Tata Investment Corporation.
In addition, he is the CEO of Trent Limited, the enormous clothing retailer owned by Tata that has grown significantly since he assumed the role in 2014.
The business runs wildly popular fashion and leisure stores under the Westside, Zudio, and Utsa brands.
