Elon Musk’s company was contacted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) over the issue earlier this week.
Due to production problems and supply chain constraints, there was a two-year delay before Tesla started distributing its Cybertruck electric pickup truck late last year.
The NHTSA stated that owners will get letters in June informing them of the EV maker’s decision to replace or repair the accelerator pedal component at no additional cost.
Owner Jose Martinez of Cybertruck told reporters that the vehicle began accelerating on its own as he was driving his brand-new Cybertruck, which he had owned for just six days, on his neighborhood drag strip in southern California.
