RIYADH: Tesla announced on its website that it will begin selling in Saudi Arabia next month, indicating that the country and CEO Elon Musk have patched up their differences, which stem from the billionaire’s unsuccessful attempt to take the firm private in 2018.
Saudi Arabia, the biggest market in the Gulf, is not one of the Middle Eastern nations where Tesla trades.
The conflict began after Musk claimed in a 2018 tweet that he had “funding secured” to take Tesla private following a meeting with the Public Investment Fund, Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund.
After a proposal fell through, that tweet ultimately sparked a lawsuit from investors, exposing heated text exchanges between Musk and PIF leader Yasir al-Rumayyan.
