After struggling to pass legislation, Texas’ primary elections on Tuesday spotlight school choice as a significant topic.
On Tuesday, nine Republican incumbents lost their elections, while eight more were forced into runoffs. Given the defeats of several incumbents, the primary election favored Republican candidates who advocated for school choice.
“This election was a total bloodbath and a mandate for school choice in Texas,” Corey DeAngelis, Senior Fellow at the American Federation for Children (AFC), told News.
He went on to say that the primary results show the “biggest political shift towards school choice in Texas history.”
“School choice was the primary dividing factor in all of these contests. It has already sent shockwaves throughout the country, and the message is clear: education freedom.
Texas Republican primary results show school choice as a crucial issue amid difficulties in passing legislation.
