The absence of Lionel Messi causes fans to demand refunds.

Messi was expected to feature in match but Argentina star stayed on bench which angered the local fans

When soccer player Lionel Messi remained on the bench the whole friendly encounter between Inter Miami and Hong Kong XI, fans began to demand a refund of their money.

Fans in the area were incensed when Messi, an Argentinean star, chose to sit on the bench throughout the game.

Unable to contain their rage, the onlookers turned on the visiting team and their co-owner, the famed football player David Beckham, demanding a refund.

When the 2022 World Cup winner was on the field, the infuriated spectators heckled Beckham and his team.

Messi, who the majority of the 40,000 spectators had paid a hefty price to watch, was recovering from a hamstring injury .

stayed off the field as a substitution that was not used.

After that, as many people started to leave, booing drowned out Beckham’s attempt to address the assembly.

Tens of thousands of people came out on Saturday to watch Messi, who is widely considered to be the best player of all time, stretch during an open training session. However, on Sunday, the 36-year-old rested his legs.

John Lee, the mayor of the city, was among the guests entertained earlier by local celebrities G.E.M, Gareth T, and Mirror member Keung To, but the day ended bitterly.

Ryan Sailor, Leonardo Campana, Lawson Connery Sunderland, and Robert Taylor all scored goals as the MLS team won for the first time since September 2023.
