Chris Ellison, the managing director of Mineral Resources, stated he wishes to “hold staff captive all day long” on Wednesday at a financial results presentation.
“I don’t want them leaving the building,” he replied.
The Perth headquarters features a café, a gym, nine staff psychologists, and many amenities to entice employees to work longer hours.
“We have a lot of different benefits that we have brought on,” Mr. Ellison stated. His business has a rigorous “no work from home policy”.
“Why did I act in that way? Because I want to utilize them as soon as I get them in the morning.
I want to stow them away for the entire day. I want them to stay inside the building. They shouldn’t be strolling down the street to get coffee, in my opinion. The cost of that was something we kind of worked out a few years ago.”
The rest of the mining business, he argued, ought to “get on board” with his ideas on the advantages of working in an office as opposed to from home.
“The industry is unable to finance it. People cannot work three days a week and receive money for five or four days of work.”
According to Mr. Ellison, the workplace culture at Mining Resources embraces parenthood, as seen by the construction of a 10-child daycare center on the premises.
