LAHORE: In the “absence of forensic evidence and credible testimonies,” a fact-finding mission led by the AGHS Legal Aid Cell and the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) stated that it is unable to verify the truth of widespread claims that a student was sexually assaulted at a private college in Lahore.
A security guard at a private college was arrested by the authorities last month after social media was inundated with tales of the alleged rape of the student. The victim could not be found or recognized, but the suspect disputed the accusations.
Outraged by the purported incident, the students protested outside many Lahore colleges, injuring dozens of others in the process. Police arrested protesters as they expanded to other parts of Punjab.
