The legendary member of The Beatles disclosed the inspiration behind the genre change at Ringo’s Annual Peace & Love Birthday Celebration at Beverly Hills Garden Park.
Starr gives Grammy-winning country music legend T Bone Burnett credit, saying on News, “I met him [when] Olivia Harrison was reading poems for George.” He was one of the approximately one hundred people present listening, and I had occasionally run into him since the 1970s.
“‘What are you doing?’ he said. “Oh, okay, I’m doing this,” I said, referring to extended play albums (which have more tracks than a single but fewer than a record). I’m hiring folks to compose music and write lyrics for songs.”
Burnett’s tune was “absolutely one of the most beautiful country songs I ever heard,” according to Starr, who had penned a few pop songs. I therefore decided to release a country EP.”
However, when he discussed recording further tracks with Burnett, the latter disclosed that he had nine tracks. As a result, Ringo stated, “I thought let’s make a real CD, so I’m back making a CD.”
Burnett expressed similar admiration for Starr in a Variety interview conducted earlier this year.
“He sings so beautifully. People never took Ringo’s singing career seriously enough since he was in a band with two of the greatest singers in rock ‘n’ roll history, Burnett told the site.
