Jon Stewart is the new host of The Daily Show. However, if everything had gone according to plan, Hasan Minhaj would have supposedly taken his place.
According to reports, the Patriot Act star from Netflix was almost chosen for the top position, but a negative story published in The New Yorker threw a wrench in the plans.
The Hollywood Reporter was informed by multiple insiders that the 38-year-old was just a few inches away from taking over as host from Trevor Noah before the end of the summer.
However, an explosive piece at the time claimed that Hasan had made up some of the autobiographical elements of his stand-up routine and exaggerated others in the US magazine.
The comedian responded by labeling the narrative as “needlessly misleading.”
But when he became perceived as a liability, opinions turned against him, and the hunt for the host was renewed.
“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s The Daily Show to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season,” CEO of Showtime Chris McCarthy said in a statement commemorating Jon’s arrival.
