South Korea’s entertainment business, which produces stars but also exposes them to intense strain and scrutiny, has come under fire again after a death in an apparent suicide.
Kim, who was discovered dead at the age of 24 at her Seoul home on Sunday, had been the target of hate mail and bad press following her 2022 conviction for drunk driving. Additional information on her death has not been released by the police.
The conditions that led to it were eerily similar to experts. After their careers were upended by cyberbullying, several celebrities also took their own lives.
Analysts believe they are not hopeful that Kim’s passing will result in significant change, as she was put to rest on Wednesday.
