A bricklayer, trainee for a bricklayer Mr. Slater, 19, was last seen on June 17 after walking the eleven hours back to his accommodations from an Airbnb in the little northern village of Masca.
After the police halted the formal land hunt on June 30, members of his family and a small group of volunteers are now undertaking ad hoc foot searches.
In an interview with News on Tuesday, Mr. Slater’s uncle Glen Duncan, 41, of the small hamlet of Santiago del Teide, described the family’s circumstances as “just desperate—desperate.”.
;The family feels abandoned, according to Mr. Duncan, who asked if they would like assistance from British police. He said, “We would love that, it’s just not as simple as that.”
“So far, we’ve only spoken with the British consulate here, and they’ve told us that the inquiry is still ongoing and that we should wait.
Small search teams have been searching the steep, rocky gorges in Rural de Teno Park, close to the isolated northern community of Masca. Among them are Mr. Slater’s father, Warren Slater, 58, and older brother, Zak, 21.
