Geert Wilders, the head of the anti-Islamic populist party in the Netherlands, and three other party leaders have reached a temporary agreement to form a right-wing government, over half a year after Wilders’ victory in the election.
The choice of the next Dutch prime minister has not yet been chosen, but it will not be Mr. Wilders, who passed up the position in an effort to close a deal.
The leader of the Freedom Party told reporters, “We have a negotiators’ agreement and we will now put it to our [parliamentary] factions.”
If they agree, his party will form a coalition with the Farmer Citizens Movement the centrist New Social Contract, and the conservative-liberal to form government.
In the election held in November of last year, Mr. Wilders’ far-right garnered 25% of the national vote after pledging to hold it.
