The Sale of Tickets (Sporting and Cultural Events) Bill was introduced in the House of Commons in response to the pricing strategy that caused Oasis fans to spend significantly more than they anticipated for the band’s 2025 reunion performances.
The bill’s proposer, Labour MP Rupa Huq, stated that she wants the law amended to increase pricing transparency and shield fans from defrauding them.
When regular tickets for Oasis’s 2025 UK and Ireland tour went on sale at the end of August, fans stood in a virtual line for hours.
While Ticketmaster said that “all ticket prices are set by the tour,” the Britpop quintet, who last performed together in 2009, claimed they were unaware that dynamic pricing would be employed.
The CMA, the UK’s competition watchdog, and Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy both promised to look into the practice.
