A contender for the Conservative leadership claimed that the prime minister’s receipt of £107,145 in gifts, benefits, and hospitality since December 2019 “does raise some questions”.
A league table detailing the amount of gifts and hospitality received by the prime minister in relation to the next Member of Parliament has been created as part of News’ Westminster Accounts project, which tracks the flow of money through our political system.
Lucy Powell, the leader of the House of Commons, is next highest in the league table with £40,289, while the PM got presents that were approximately equal to the combined gifts of the following five MPs.
One of the four contenders for the Conservative Party leadership, Mr. Tugendhat acknowledged that MPs receive many gifts and complimentary tickets, but “many of us decline politely.”
He stated on Politics Hub With Sophy Ridge: “I’ve had invitations to a variety of parties at various times. You know you have to decide something. Does it appear correct? Is the scent correct? Really, pass the smell test.
