The drawing, created by Masha, the daughter of Alexei Moskalev, and with the words “No to war” and “Glory to Ukraine,” was reported to the authorities in 2022.
Later, he was charged with frequently disparaging the Russian army on social media, and in March 2023, he was given a two-year prison sentence for doing so.
In video posted online on Tuesday, he is shown hugging his daughter while still in his jail garb after exiting the Tula region’s penitentiary camp.

Moskalev recounted being held in a punishment cell for two months.
“It was just a torture chamber,” he added. Only a torture cell. To begin with, the cell measured two meters by one meter. Do you know what that means?
I sat by myself at first, but then they added a second person. And we were seated together in a two-by-one-meter cell.
Rats were everywhere, coming from the sewers, and the flooring were decaying. The rats were enormous.
The federal prison service in Russia did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the news agency Reuters.
