After seven and a half months in Gaza, she will be buried under those trees at home, close to her family, on Sunday.
Her parents, Nissim and Ricarda, found out she had died a few weeks after an image of her body slumped in the back of a Hamas truck became one of the defining images of the Nova Music Festival massacre on October 7.
However, having her corpse returned and properly buried has provided enormous relief to her family.
“I’m relieved because I now have a somewhere to return to, like a grave. Tomorrow she’ll be buried.
She returned home, and it was my wife’s birthday, and I could see she had had enough of Gaza and did not want to be there any longer. You know, the spirit. I do not want to be in Gaza anymore. I want to return back and lie next to you, my parents.
