In a historic decision, the Federal Shariat Court ruled that it is not Islamic to deny women their inheritance because of conventions and traditions.
The ruling states that those who deprive women of their legitimate inheritance shall be prosecuted.
A four-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman issued the decision in response to a plea submitted by Fauzia Jalal Shah.
The court emphasized how Islamic teachings are violated by customs such as “Chadar” and “Parchi,” which are utilized to deny women their inheritance rights.
