Thomas captioned one of her favorite pictures of the couple on Instagram, sharing a heartfelt statement honoring her late husband of 44 years.
“I’m sure by now you’ve heard the very sad news that I lost my sweetheart last night, so I know you understand that I’ll be stepping away from this page for a while to take care of myself and the many people who took care of Phil, and held him close to their hearts,” wrote Thomas.
She went on to express her gratitude to everyone for “the heartfelt words of love and support that have been arriving throughout the day.
Phil got such a pleasure out of our little community here, and as a man who spent his career loving his audiences, I know he would be deeply touched by the endearing thoughts and memories you’ve been sharing.”
“Until I return, I wish you good health and happy days spent with family and friends. I also hope that you will keep those you love closest close, as I was fortunate to do with my beloved Phillip,” Thomas continued. Marlo, love.”
Until more recent times, when they were glad to impart the knowledge and affection they had amassed over the years, Donahue and Thomas kept their marriage a secret.
