Among other eligible films for the 97th Academy Awards, Usman Riaz’s “The Glassworker,” Pakistan’s first-ever hand-drawn animated feature film, has been chosen for the animated films category.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences declared on Thursday that 169 documentaries, 85 foreign films, and 31 animated movies are up for Oscar nominations this year.
The selection of The Glassworker, a film produced by Films in association with Mano Animation Studios, as Pakistan’s first animated Oscar submission is a significant milestone for the nation.
The movie competes in the animated feature category against industry heavyweights like DreamWorks Animation’s The Biggest Movie Ever and Pixar’s Inside Out 2, which is already hailed as the highest-grossing animated movie ever.
