The offer will be presented to members of the British Medical Association’s (BMA) junior physicians committee, and if accepted, it will put an end to months of walkouts over salary.
The Times reports that the pay-increase offer will be spread out over a two-year period.
This translates to a wage increase of 8.1% to 10.3% plus a backdated increase of 4.05% for 2023–2024.
Additionally, there will be a £1,000 payment in addition to the 6% salary increase for 2024–2025, potentially increasing pay by 7%–9%.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves made an announcement this afternoon during a significant address regarding budget changes.
“Industrial action in the NHS alone cost the taxpayer £1.7bn last year,” Reeves told lawmakers.
It is with great pleasure that I announce today that the government has approved an offer for junior doctors, which the BMA is urging its members to take advantage of.
