The government has taken action to expand the number of Supreme Court justices from 17 to 23, and according to sources, a formal measure will shortly be presented to the National Assembly.
An formal bill to raise the number of judges will be tabled shortly after the private bill, according to sources. According to them, the formal measure to change the Supreme Court’s current composition is anticipated to be introduced at Friday’s National Assembly session. Daniyal Chaudhry of the PML-N has already introduced a private bill on Private Members’ Day.
As per the proposed measure, there will be 23 Supreme Court judges in total, including the top justice.
