On Sunday, the federal government declared that it would be halting the passports of more than two thousand people who had been discovered begging overseas.
Authorities have gathered lists of these people from Pakistani embassies around the world, and they have asked the Ministry of External Affairs for further information about them.
Official sources claim that individuals who beg abroad will have their passports revoked for a term of seven years.
Government authorities emphasized that the act of begging abroad not only reflects poorly on Pakistan but also undermines the dignity of its inhabitants, highlighting the reasoning behind this strict policy.
A Ministry of Interior spokesman emphasized the necessity for swift action by saying, “Beggars who travel abroad bring disgrace to the nation.”
Additionally, the authorities have decided to revoke the passports of those who assist people in begging abroad.
It has been shown that a significant portion of beggars travel to Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Iraq pretending to be on pilgrimage or doing the Umrah before turning to begging.
