Cancer survivors may develop a persistent, excruciating, and incurable illness. Both medical professionals and patients are working to raise awareness of this obscure illness.
When discussing his cancer therapy with the oncologist, my late uncle pointed to his legs, which had swelled to about three times their regular size. He was in discomfort, exhausted, and unable to move properly due to the swelling.
“Oh, that’s lymphoedema; there’s nothing we can do about that; I can tell you that much,” the doctor replied, brushing off my uncle’s discomfort and worries.
I recall being astounded by the doctor’s callous disregard for something that was seriously impairing my uncle’s movement and causing him a great deal of suffering.
