ISLAMABAD: Following the deaths of rhesus monkeys in Islamabad’s Margalla Hills National Park, environmental and wildlife specialists have demanded more stringent laws and increased public awareness on human-animal interactions.
Days after a rhesus monkey was electrocuted to death in the national park while scaling electricity lines to find food, the development occurred. This is the third such death in as many months, highlighting the increasing risks associated with human feeding practices.
Wildlife rescuer Sana Raja described the incident, saying the monkey climbed the electrical infrastructure to find food crumbs that park visitors had left behind.
She told the state news agency that she thought the animals were being forced into dangerous places like roadways or power lines since they were conditioned to equate humans with food.
