Wikipedia has been officially placed on notice by the Indian government due to bias and misinformation on the website.
Officials pointed out in a recent email that a small number of editors appear to have considerable control over content, which may affect the platform’s objectivity.
According to sources, the government has expressed reservations about Wikipedia’s editorial duties and questioned why it should be viewed as an intermediary rather than a publisher.
Wikipedia and the government have not yet issued a formal comment on the subject.
This examination comes after the Delhi High Court made a negative statement regarding Wikipedia’s classification as a “free encyclopedia.”
Asian News International (ANI) filed a complaint alleging that Wikipedia included errors, and the court previously warned of a possible ban in India.
