The British Retail Consortium (BRC)-Nielsen Shop Price Index revealed that the rate eased to 1.3% last month from 2.5% in February due to declining food costs and retailer competitiveness.
The findings show that the annual growth in store prices is currently at its lowest point since December 2021.
According to the survey, food costs had decreased from 5% in February to 3.7% higher than a year earlier.
March saw a decrease in inflation for non-food items to 0.2% from 1.3% the previous month.
