ISLAMABAD: Attaullah Tarar, the minister of information and broadcasting, warned against speculation on Monday, dismissing the idea that the government would introduce the 27th amendment just days after passing the constitutional package with a two-thirds majority in parliament.
“The 27th constitutional amendment was not discussed in any government or legal committee meetings,” the minister stated during an appearance on the Geo News show “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath.”
According to the sources, the top officials of the ruling party discussed the proposed “27th constitutional amendment centred on provincial rights” during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in Lahore the day before the statement was made.
News that the ruling parties agreed upon was informed by the sources with knowledge of the issues.
