After a police officer harassed Jessica Barahona Martinez, a lesbian from El Salvador, she was detained for years without being allowed to leave. She discussed her experience with News in her first in-person interviews following her release.
Originally from that Central American nation, Jessica Barahona Martinez spoke with News and its American affiliate News about her experience during her first in-person interview following her release.
Her sister passed suddenly from cancer while she was in custody, and she hardly ever visited her kids after being transferred to a facility more than a thousand miles away from home.
Sandra Grossman, the attorney for Ms. Barahona Martinez, calls it one of the worst situations she has ever encountered.
“We have been fighting bogus red notices for over 15 years,” she stated.
“And I can tell you that this is one of the most egregious examples of interpol abuse that we’ve ever seen.”
