After a second day of airstrikes killed at least 20 Palestinians, according to local health workers, the Israeli military announced on Wednesday that its forces had commenced ground operations in the central and southern Gaza Strip.
The resumption of ground operations follows a day after airstrikes killed over 400 Palestinians in one of the worst episodes since the conflict started, breaking a ceasefire that had been in place since January.
The Israeli military said that their actions were a “focused” maneuver meant to establish a partial buffer zone between the enclave’s north and south and that they had increased Israel’s authority over the Netzarim Corridor, which divides Gaza.
