Article 370, which gives the area special status, should be reinstated, according to a resolution passed by the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
The National Conference (NC) leader and deputy chief minister, Surinder Singh Choudhary, introduced the motion. Before the resolution was approved, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rathore asked the assembly members for their thoughts.
The action directly challenges the Indian government’s 2019 repeal of Article 370, which withdrew the unique autonomy of Jammu & Kashmir. BJP parliamentarians fiercely opposed the motion, claiming fears about India’s unity and integrity, even though the majority of members backed it.
Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, the leader of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, attacked the BJP.
