An elderly villager named Shafi Jan told Dawn on Monday that at least fifty chronic kidney sufferers in the Boraka village suffered from diseases brought on by contaminated water.
He said that waterborne illnesses had afflicted several residents of the community.
He stated that because of tainted water, his family had to pay more than Rs 600,000 for the treatment of a family member who developed kidney ailment.
He argued that the peasants’ inability to pay for their medical care was a result of their poverty.
Mumtaz claimed that despite their requests for clean drinking water supply to the public health engineering department and legislators, no one had taken the necessary action.
