PESHAWAR: After months of tribal conflicts, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) cabinet on Monday authorized a humanitarian emergency in Kurram, which is currently a “disaster-hit” district due to the severe lack of essential supplies and ongoing road closures.
Following the cabinet meeting, which was presided over by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, KP government spokesperson Barrister Saif said, “The provincial government has directed authorities concerned to expedite relief operations in the [violence-marred district].”
He went on to say that throughout the relief disaster, officials were making sure that food and medication were available. “The relief operation includes provision of medicines, food, and transportation via airborne service.”
In Parachinar, the protracted blockade has resulted in acute shortages of basic goods, including as food.
