Williams is well-known for his successes like “Happy” and for being half of the production duo the Neptunes, who worked on some of the biggest hits of the past 20 years. Williams also serves as the film’s producer.
The new movie, Piece by Piece, tells the story of Williams’s early years in Virginia through his ascent to prominence using Lego bricks.
Deadline remarked of the treatment that it “brings a freshness and originality to a docu format that makes it feel all new again” following its global premiere at the Telluride film festival over the weekend.
Along with Venice and Toronto, Telluride in Colorado is one of the premier fall festivals for introducing future Oscar winners.
Williams recorded five new songs for the soundtrack, thus the movie is probably going to be nominated for best animated feature and best original song.
Morgan Neville, who also directed the documentaries Won’t You Be My Neighbor and 20 Feet From Stardom, is directing this movie.
“Piece by Piece leaves you with hope and a whole bunch of songs you will not be able to get out of your head,” remarked Pete Hammond of Deadline.
