Healy allegedly gave a vulgar statement to the crowd during the band’s main show in July of last year and planted a kiss on a bandmate.
The Good Vibes Festival’s organizers are suing the UK High Court for £1.9 million ($2.4 million) in damages for breaking performance guidelines.
In Malaysia, homosexual behavior is prohibited and carries a 20-year prison sentence. Swearing, smoking, drinking, and discussing politics and religion on stage are all prohibited throughout the festival.
The 1975’s management team and the festival’s organizers were informed of the rules, according to a court complaint.
According to Future Sound Asia, the band was reminded of the regulations several times before their July performance, having already played at the same festival in 2016.
According to the lawsuit, the band made the decision to “act in a way that was intended to breach guidelines.”.
It mentioned that Healy had “the intention of causing offence and breaching the regulations” with his “provocative speech” and “long pretend passionate embrace” with bassist Ross MacDonald.
