According to local official Jacques Billant, the tragedy off the coast of Wimereux in northern France claimed the lives of three men, a lady, and a seven-year-old daughter.
There were multiple “lifeless bodies” and a botched effort to cross the Channel, according to the French coast guard.
The tragic event transpired within hours following the enactment of the contentious Rwanda law by the UK government, which aimed to discourage migrants from attempting to cross the Channel in tiny boats.
There were about 112 passengers on the crammed boat, according to Mr. Billant.
Four of the 47 individuals who were rescued were sent to the hospital, and over 50 others decided to continue traveling, according to the official added.
