Conservative accusations that the government was “concreting over” green belt land were rebutted by Matthew Pennycook.
He informed MPs that it was “wrong” to suggest that rural areas would be the hardest hit by the reforms and that the new housing targets for local councils were concentrated on areas of the nation where housing was the least affordable.
With a goal of creating 1.5 million new houses in England over the next five years, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has made growing homebuilding a top priority.
“Our plan for change will put builders not blockers first, overhaul the broken planning system and put roofs over the heads of working families and drive the growth that will put more money in people’s pockets,” the Prime Minister stated.
