Victoria Atkins was questioned on News’ Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips after her front-bench colleague Michael Gove urged pro-Palestinian demonstrators to examine whether some events were organized by extremist organizations.
On Saturday, tens of thousands of people marched in London to oppose Israel’s war on Gaza, the fifth march in the capital this year, coordinated by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC). Five people were arrested, while one counter-demonstrator was released.
Mr Gove told the Sunday Telegraph that the planned updated definition of extremist groups would have “more specificity” and would allow the government and other public bodies to prohibit funding and interaction with Islamist and far-right groups.
