Dokoupil questioned “The Message” author Ta-Nehisi Coates, whose most recent book is critical of Israel. Dokoupil is Jewish and has children who reside in Israel.
“The content of that section would not be out of place in the backpack of an extremist,” Dokoupil said Coates. He then asked him “why leave out so much” as “What is it that so particularly offends you about the existence of a Jewish state that is a Jewish safe place?”
What happened was a lively exchange between Dokoupil and Coates that never got heated enough to explode on broadcast.
