Reddit users decided that a mother of twins was right to forbid her sister-in-law from entering her home after the mother refused to refer to the young children as individuals. Experts also told Fox News Digital that twins require a strong sense of individuality.
In a post titled “AITA for banning my husband’s sister from my house until she uses the names of my twins?” on January 16, 2024, Redditor “FitStarAnise” solicited feedback from other members on the “Am I the A–hole” subreddit regarding her predicament.
FitStarAnise stated in the post that she is a 38-year-old married mother of two identical twin girls, Amy and Nina, who are six years old. Despite having the largest house, they reside in the same town as the majority of her husband’s family, so they frequently host family get togethers.

“My husband’s youngest sister Jane (31f) has been traveling for work ever since her early 20s,” said FitStarAnise. However, she moved in with her fiancé in 2022 to be nearer to the family, and she now frequently attends family gatherings.
The Redditor wrote to other users on the site, “The only thing she never bothers to do is address my daughters by their names.”
FitStarAnise stated that Jane “always insists on calling the girls ‘the twins’ and makes no effort to distinguish them,” as opposed to referring to her kids by their first names.
“I understand when people refer to them as ‘the twins,’ but I think it is important that their individuality is respected,” FitStarAnise added.
She went on to say, “I always tell family and friends that now that they are 6 years old, it is important for them to have their own identity, and, if possible, please treat them as individual rather than [as] a pair or a unit.”
“It is easy to distinguish between Amy and Nina due to their distinct hobbies and hair/dressing styles,” FitStarAnise continued.
