Researchers in Central and Western Ecuador have discovered two new, terrifying species that are sure to give you nightmares: a mysterious 3-foot snake that lurks in the swamps and an eight-eyed tarantula that has the demeanor of “Satan.”
These creatures are now haunting the scientific community. They were found in 2021 while searching for new species of tree spiders.
This hairy arachnid, officially known as Psalmopoeus satanas, or the Satan tarantula, got its name because of its unusually “bad temperament.” Under a bamboo tree in the Ecuadorian highlands, researchers came across this terrifying creature that fought mightily to be captured.
