PML-N President Nawaz has been named patron-in-chief of the steering committee of the Lahore Authority for Heritage Revival (LAHR), which was founded by the Punjab government to restore and preserve the city’s historic sites.
Maryam Nawaz, the Punjab Chief Minister and former three-time prime minister, presided over a meeting in Lahore on Sunday where the decision was reached. The removal and identification of encroachments from historical sites was the main topic of the discussion.
During the discussion, Nawaz stated, “Old Lahore is very beautiful… it is necessary to restore it to its original condition.”
He pointed out that despite the passing of centuries, Europe has managed to save its historic palaces and structures in their original configuration. “Destruction of national heritage is tantamount to backwardness,” he stated.
