MELBOURNE: Amid worries about an impending senior player exodus, new Cricket Australia (CA) manager Todd Greenberg stated that Australia will need to have difficult discussions about rejuvenating an aging squad.
In the first Test match against India in Perth, Australia only had one player under 30 on the pitch, Nathan McSweeney, who was the debuting opener. Pat Cummins’ team lost by 295 runs.
While acknowledging the difficulty facing Australia, Greenberg, who will succeed Chief Executive Nick Hockley at the end of the home summer, pointed out that players are living longer lives as a result of improved management.
While in Adelaide on Thursday, Greenberg told Australian reporters, “We do have a more ageing side, particularly in red-ball cricket, and that won’t be easy,”
