As the number of fatalities from weekend storms climbed to 36 in six states, the National Weather Service continued to issue a watch for destructive wind and tornadoes across parts of Pennsylvania, New York, and Mid-Atlantic and Southeast states.
President Donald Trump said in a White House statement that “36 innocent lives have been lost and many more devastated” and that he was keeping an eye on the tornadoes and storms.
Trump promised state and local governments assistance and declared the National Guard had been sent to Arkansas.
On Sunday, the storms that struck the Midwest and South moved eastward. As of Sunday afternoon, the website PowerOutage reported that over 340,000 customers were without power in the impacted areas.
