According to information obtained by News, Centrica, which is estimated to be worth £7.3 billion, is collaborating with headhunters to find Scott Wheway’s replacement.
According to city officials, the search agency Lygon Group was in charge of the operation, which has been going on since early this year.
Having been on the Centrica board since 2016, Mr. Wheway became chairman of the firm in 2020, replacing Charles Berry.
That means that in May 2025, after serving as a director for nine years, Mr. Wheway would no longer be considered independent under UK corporate governance regulations.
It is understood that Centrica is examining both external candidates and current board members to succeed Mr. Wheway.
Former J Sainsbury finance boss Kevin O’Byrne would be a plausible candidate, but as the senior independent director in charge of spearheading the search, it remained unclear this weekend if he was considered.
Former energy and home secretary Amber Rudd is one of Centrica’s other board members.
