Since Alice Guo was not at any of her known addresses over the weekend, police were unable to execute a warrant for her arrest.
In March, scam centers operating within internet casinos catering to Chinese residents of the mainland were discovered in Bamban, the hometown of Ms. Guo.
Her narrative has developed into something akin to a television drama since she was also questioned about her Chinese ancestry, and there were rumors that she was a spy or “asset” for Beijing.
As Manila and Beijing continue to argue about reefs and outcrops in the South China Sea, the case of Ms. Guo has captured the attention of the country.
Following her repeated refusal to show up for summonses to appear in hearings about the scam centers, the Senate last Friday ordered the arrest of Ms. Guo and several members of her family.
“Exhibit yourself. Senator Risa Hontiveros, who is in charge of the parliament’s probe into Ms. Guo, stated in a statement that “hiding will not erase the truth.”
Ms. Guo has refuted any misconduct. Her parents are Chinese and Filipina, she claims, and they raised her on their pig farm.
However, based on immigration records, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, who is involved in the probe, asserts that Ms. Guo is a Chinese national, whose true name is Guo Hua Ping.
