Since its premiere in April, How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies has been the biggest grossing film in the area.
The movie centers on M, who is planning to receive money from his grandma, who has illness, but as he gets closer to her, he starts to doubt his intentions.
The moving videos of themselves that fans have been uploading before and after the movie suggest that the story has struck a deep chord with viewers.
“I’m sprinting to give my grandmother a hug! Very moving movie… Because it brought up memories of my own, this movie struck me even more.
On social media, young people have expressed how moving it was to see the grandma in agony and how she kept pleading with her departed folks to “take [me] with them.”
One TikToker commented, “I cried so much that all of my makeup was gone after the movie,” in reference to those particular moments.
Diariesofswan, another, commented: “Cry after the movie. When you miss someone and can no longer hold them or hear their voice, just cry.”
The relationship between screenwriter Thodsapon Thiptinnakorn and his grandmother served as inspiration for the film. It is also Pat Boonnitipat’s first feature-length film as director. He told the news that he was “really surprised” by the tremendous reception and said the attraction of the film rested in its capacity to capture the “conflicted” nature of it.
